OPEN  LETTER  TO  HELICOPTER  OPERATORS - PILOTS - STUDENTS

Dear Friends;
   
As many of you are already aware, finding adequately experienced pilots to meet current industry demands is a growing problem. And this proficiency gap between available pilots and expanding talent requirements looks to be widening.

   The purpose of this website is to help narrow this gap by sharing accumulated wisdom from the experience of many pilots over many years. This
 is operations knowledge not required to be taught in flight schools, not practical to cover by chief pilots, and not yet learned by experience. Here is a resource for new or under-experienced pilots to grow, for good pilots to function even better, and to assist employers in developing a top performing pilot staff.  A glance through the Course will demonstrate this.
      
    Obviously, the next best thing to actual log book pilot experience (with its measure of risky trial-and-error) would be a comprehensive ground course. This would be a way to gain experience (operations knowledge) without risk. This would be a course that confronts far more than helicopter damage control.
Lack of knowledge and self-discipline promote bad operations habits that result in negative consequences.
    
   Chief pilots and operations managers readily admit that a major portion of the talent required by any pilot to function professionally in such a wide area of responsibility lies outside his/her basic ability to handle the controls.  A comprehensive Ground Course could deal with hundreds of pilot shortcomings.

   My contribution has been  to draw on five decades of piloting, add material from eminently qualified pilots and industry specialists, publish a 190 page Book/Manual. and offer an in-depth 15 hour helicopter pilot operations Course on this website. The Manual is required.  A Certificate Of Proficiency is offered.     

   
    This entire Helicopter Pilot Commercial Operations Course can be viewed and/or printed (free) from this website. Course content is influenced by contributions from chief pilots, operations managers, high time pilots, maintenance managers and engineers, employers, aviation lawyers, aviation insurance brokers, clients, unofficial encouragement from Transport Canada, and even stay-at-home moms. In other words, content covers far more than my ideas, opinions and experiences only.
    
   The Course and Manual include immersion into up-close and personal operations experiences that put pilots into the heat of the action.  Such topics as liability, reputation, public relations, work procedures and organizational concerns are all covered in the Course.  Matters relating to safety, efficiency, loyalty and a self-disciplined attitude get front row attention.  From the
