        A "PILOT  EXPERIENCE"  COURSE ONLINE

For decades now helicopter safety pundits have been pleading with pilots to learn from the mistakes of other pilots, because they may not live long enough to make them all themselves
. When considering that helicopter industry professionals are seeing pilot shortcomings that go well beyond basic miss-handling of the controls - there's a problem. So reports Ray Conant, retired instructor/helicopter pilot, who has done something constructive about it.

He noticed that even though flight school instruction deals with the piloting mistakes of others, as do Pilot Proficiency Checks by employers - on the job performance in these and many other areas too often falls far short of "superior" pilot talent.  So he considered publishing an online course drawn from the ongoing experiences of front-line industry professionals.

He decided this training would include advanced factors in the recognition of risk, mature pilot performance objectives, realism in analyzing a variety of unusual challenges, a pervasive business-like work ethic, communication that gets it right every time, insightful public relations, self-control, loyalty, and certainly the deeper meaning of good paperwork. It would be seen as benefiting from the valuable pilot experience of others without risk or considerable cost to anyone. It would include on-going input from instructors, chief pilots, operations managers, industry research, maintenance managers, senior pilots, clients, and even the occasional housewife.

Ray has now published such a Course. It's self-paced, web-based, and requires only his 190 page Manual and Internet access. The complete Course appears on his website for all to see and use. Flight schools are being encouraged to promote the course among students in the interest of maximizing employment attractiveness. A fee-based Certificate of Proficiency is offered upon satisfactory completion of the Course. A color photocopy with each job application certifies completion of this specialized training.

Employers of helicopter pilots are being made aware of this "experience training." Some companies are issuing a copy of the Manual to each of their staff pilots. The Course requires a Manual and Internet access, a passion for the safe and efficient piloting of helicopters, and determination to land that ideal job.
